How to read the table
- Basic salary means the fixed basic amount in your contract, not your total package. Allowances are not included.
- Figures use the standard formula: 21 days of basic pay per year for the first 5 years and 30 days per year after that, with a daily rate of basic salary ÷ 30. See how gratuity is calculated for the steps.
- The total is capped at two years of wage (Article 51, clause 6), applied here as 24 months of basic salary.
- Part of a year counts in proportion (clause 3), so the real figure for 3 years and 6 months sits between the 3-year and 5-year columns. Use the calculator for exact dates.
- Less than one year of service gives no gratuity under this formula, so the table starts at one year.
- Figures are rounded to the nearest dirham.
If your numbers are not in the table
The table covers common values only. Your exact salary, your exact dates and any unpaid leave will change the result. Use the gratuity calculator for your own figures.
Worth knowing
Going from 5 to 6 years adds more than going from 4 to 5, because each year after the fifth earns 30 days of pay instead of 21. That is about 43% more for every extra year once you pass five.
